My name is Chesna Closs, and I'm a certified personal trainer and health coach with a passion for empowering others to live healthier lives through physical fitness and holistic well-being. Welcome to Fit Esteem!
I describe Fit Esteem (FE) as the feeling you get from being fit. I have FE now but that wasn't always the case. That's because everyone in my family either lived with or died from chronic illness(es) or disease(s). And everyone experienced chronic, long-term stress and societal-based trauma. I was on that same path but turned it all around when I took control of my health. The transformation felt exhilarating. I called that feeling "fit esteem," and set out on a mission to share it!
At first, my focus was solely on adults. My clients were diverse in age, gender, cultural background, and ethnicity but I began to notice that they shared common struggles. And this resonated with me because of my own struggles within my family. That's when I began working on a way to address this in my work.
The Concept of Fit Esteem Kids was Born
In 2011, I created my first children's character. In 2014, I created 3 more and my first set of stories, lyrics and special activities. In 2015, I made Fit Esteem Kids a subsidiary extension of Fit Esteem, and began working on programs that would allow me to work with multiple generations in more of a coordinated way.
I've spent the past 29 years honing my approach working with clients of all ages, ethnicities, fitness levels, body types, and backgrounds. I continue to draw on these experiences, as well as my personal ones, to create fresh, culturally-relevant programs that inspire people to find and keep their fit esteem.

The mission of FE is to help people of all ages (and abilities) improve their fitness in the five major categories of health: physical, nutritional, emotional, spiritual and social. We refer to this expanded notion of fitness as 'holistic fitness.'
The goal of Fit Esteem is to encourage and promote holistic fitness habits through coaching and lifestyle programming that's fun, realistic, creative and culturally relevant for participants and their families.

Our approach with adults and children goes beyond the limited scope of just diet or nutrition and exercise. We know that empowering people to live a healthy lifestyle works best when it's all-inclusive and a whole lot of fun!
And our understanding of social and economic variables, cultural values and traditions, and family dynamics is what keeps us in touch with the adults, children and families we serve.
